SAS Tech Services, a Northampton-based managed service provider, marked its 25th year running Mercedes-Benz trucks with the acquisition of its first all-electric Mercedes-Benz eActros 600. The newest addition to the all-Mercedes-Benz fleet will pull a double-decker trailer as it makes weekly round trips between the UK and Holland, covering 80,000 miles (128,747 kilometres) a year, collecting end-of-life IT equipment for recycling.

The company also added a new Actros L ProCabin 1853LS GigaSpace 4x2 in Crystal Green metallic, which will log over 100,000 mi (160,934 km) annually, serving recycling centres in England, Scotland, and Wales. Both trucks are highly specified, featuring full leather interiors, microwaves, chrome alloy wheels, and LED lighting. The vehicles will also be on show at Truckfest and other events to promote the SAS brand.

“We’ve already had great experiences with our Mercedes-Benz eSprinter, so the move to an electric HGV was the logical progression,” says Lee Spendlove, managing director of SAS Tech Services. “The decision was sealed when one of SAS’s drivers trialled a demonstrator vehicle. “It is amazing! I’m a convert to electric.”

    About The Mercedes-Benz eActros 600

The eActros 600 was named International Truck of the Year 2025 for its long range, advanced safety systems, and driver-oriented design. The truck’s three lithium-iron-phosphate battery packs produce 621 kilowatt-hours, giving the eActros 600 a range of 500 km per charge.

    Improving Safety On The Road

The electric lorry comes with driver assistance programs to improve safety inside and outside the cab. Active Sideguard Assist 2 provides support for changing lanes, overtaking, and turning. Active Brake Assist 6 Plus detects obstacles and reacts with warning signals up to automatic full-stop braking. Front Guard Assist monitors the area in front of the truck and warns the driver of potential hazards. Attention Assist 2 recognises when a driver becomes inattentive and provides acoustic and visual warnings.
