Used MAN TGA Tractor Units for Sale

3 Average

If you need a tractor unit that can handle the rigours of long-distance transport, the MAN TGA may be a good truck to consider. The predecessor to the current TGX range, the TGA family consists of 31-tonne to 44-tonne tractor units equipped with everything you would expect to find on vehicles that are, by nature, heavy-duty road warriors.

High-roof sleeper cabs are a feature of the TGA range, and there is a lot of potential in the used market at the moment, especially since these tractor units have been retired from production and are therefore surviving thanks to second-hand sales.

MAN equipped the TGA tractor units with efficient diesel engines pumping out between 310hp and 530hp, although for the most part you will find second-hand examples that fall between 430hp and 480hp to optimise the balance between power and fuel efficiency. And these units are certainly efficient, especially for the era in which they were manufactured.

Stricter regulations may have come into force in the interim, but this should not stop you considering a TGA, since it will still be a cost-effective platform for serious transport requirements.

Manufacturers that make large tractor units such as the TGA series tend not to have too much trouble in making sure that the interior can accommodate one or two drivers comfortably, with twin sleeper cabs available on this range. There are also the usual benefits you would want to see from a truck that can tackle several overnight stops in a row while keeping its occupants in good spirits, including night heaters, fridge or chiller compartments and a range of other electronic benefits. Things such as electric windows and mirrors, along with a sun deflector, sunroof and air conditioning system, can also be desirable on this type of truck. So expect to get a full rundown of such features before you make your decision on which used TGA tractor unit you want to purchase.

The age of the TGA tractor unit range means that you are going to be looking at used models which have Euro 3 and Euro 4 engines, with the latter being the latest technology that was available at the end of the production life of this truck. MAN engineers still managed to squeeze the most out of these engines, and combining them with reliable manual gearboxes and efficient automatic drivelines can help to give them competitive fuel consumption figures. Other benefits, including air suspension, alloy fuel tanks and disc brakes, are common on this range, particularly on later models where safety standards and comfort levels were being optimised.

As time passes, the MAN TGA tractor units are becoming increasingly cost-effective thanks to the capabilities they offer and the price at which you can procure them on the used market. You will still need to look out for any shoddy examples which have been overworked and not properly maintained, but with the right sort of checks you can select a truck which will become a substantial asset for your organisation.
