Grab loader trucks come in various sizes and specifications, so if you are going to buy a used example then you need to pay heed both to the models that are on offer as well as your own requirements. These adapted tippers are the ultimate way to efficiently transport heavy loads, but because of how they are used you will want to make sure that you are not going to overburden the truck.
This is why selecting the right size of grab loader is so important, and why the exertion of frequent use may have left a second-hand example in need of maintenance.
At the heavy-duty end of the market you can find eight-wheel grab loaders capable of hauling rubble, earth and a wide array of irregular loads in their steel bodies. There are also six-wheel grab loaders and even very compact four-wheel models, although of course the maximum loads that they can bear and the type of materials they are capable of handling will vary. Irrespective of the size of the grabber loader, the crane mechanism will usually be mounted in the mid section between the cab and the trailer, as this provides optimal reach and balance for this important piece of machinery.

When you are thinking about buying a used grab loader truck, the specifications of the crane and the type of bucket it features should be carefully considered. Many will feature clam-shell buckets, as this is a versatile and sturdy option for most applications. And cranes tend to be compatible with multiple bucket types as well as other peripherals. Whether or not a bucket is included with a second-hand grab tipper can depend on the seller, so look not only at the condition of the hydraulics powering the crane but also what is included when you buy.
A grab loader is a good choice if a typical tipper truck cannot easily be loaded by a separate piece of equipment, such as an excavator. This may not be affordable or practical, so the convenience of having a truck which can both transport waste loads and physically collect them as well is where the value of these vehicles lies.
More recent examples of second-hand grab loaders may come with bodies that are lighter than their predecessors while still being just as durable, which clearly leads to improved fuel efficiency. This may be worth considering as you examine the used trucks that are available. But older models can be just as functional and more affordable, giving you a lot to balance up before you make a decision.
Carrying tough loads across rough surfaces can lead to problems with the suspension, as well as leaving the body open to damage both on the sides and underneath. Any part of a grab loader which is exposed to such hazards, as well as the elements, is worth casting your eye over, as even relatively new models can have been compromised by damage which you might then have to repair at your own cost.
