Fuel Tankers Trucks For Sale

Fuel tankers long ago solved the issue of transporting large amounts of volatile substances over long distances. And today they are a common sight on the road, bringing fuel to filling stations, factories, businesses and individuals across the country. Typically with a cylindrical container at the rear and capable of coupling with different cabs up front, fuel tanker trucks are available to buy used for those that are in need of one. And as with any piece of equipment that may have covered hundreds of thousands of miles of open road, ensuring that a second-hand tanker is in a good condition will let you put it to work immediately rather than having to deal with costly maintenance or repairs on day one.

Fuel tankers come in a range of capacities, and this is a good place to start when deciding on which model to purchase. The higher the capacity, the larger the load it can accommodate, but bigger fuel tankers will usually be costlier to run and may also be overkill for organisations that do not require such large quantities of fuel. And capacity is something that can be divided amongst several compartments on board a tanker for added convenience. There are models with a single compartment if just one type of fuel is to be loaded on board, so you will have to make a choice based on your needs.

Fuel Tanker for SaleWhat's the Right Size Fuel Tanker?

Even relatively compact fuel tankers will have gross vehicle weights of 18 tonnes or more, with the cab included. Meanwhile, eight wheelers will tip the scales at 32 tonnes and accommodate over 100,000 litres of fuel. This puts a lot of strain on both the frame and the container itself, so check that these parts are undamaged and in good shape before buying a used fuel tanker. The type of material from which the tanker is constructed will also be a priority to check, as this will not only impact the weight of the vehicle and thus its fuel efficiency, but also the type of material that it can accept on board. All of these elements need to be quantified and qualified before you make any kind of commitment.

Top Vs. Bottom Loaders?

Another important asset of a fuel tanker truck is the pumping system used to load and unload fuel from the rear body. If this is in place and working properly, then a used example will be ready to deploy as soon as you take delivery of it. If there are any issues or there are parts of the hosing and other equipment missing, then this should also be investigated and taken into account. Additionally, the position of the valves that allow the fuel to be accessed can differ, with some tankers loading from the top while others load from the side or bottom. It is all a matter of the age of the tanker body, as well as its original manufacturer. With the right details to hand, you can make an informed decision when investing in this broad category of commercial truck bodies.
