DAF LF45 Trucks For Sale

4 Average

The LF45 – commonly known just as the 45 – is the smallest truck still produced by DAF. Easy to manoeuvre; and still robust enough to deliver up to 21 tonnes; the 45 is obviously best suited to shorter journeys but is still very comfortable and reliable. The 45 is also very low maintenance, with extended oil drain intervals of up to 34,000 miles, and even a load-sensing brake regulator to reduce strain.

Easy access is probably the 45’s greatest advantage. Getting in and out of the cab is quick and painless, and the truck is extremely straightforward to drive once you’re in. Ideal for city transportation, the fact that it’s surprisingly comfortable means that it can be applied for longer distances if needs be (for more regular long haulage operations the CF series is ideal, and the CF75 is probably the most flexible among DAF’s trucks).

From the end of 2014, the LF45 was supercedes by DAF's new Euro 6 range, called simply the DAF LF.  Out went the 45 and the 55 and in came simply the power output.

Launch of LF45
The LF45 first comes into production as DAF’s answer to distribution transport. Marketed in the 6 to 18 tonne segment of the truck market
600 Series Launched
The predecessor of the LF45 was born - similar in appearance to today's 45 trucks, the 600 replaced the ageing 500 series.
45 Series Launched
With the DNA of today's LF45, the DAF 45 series was launched
LF45 Wins Truck of the Year
The newly introduced LF is voted ‘International Truck of the Year 2002’ after a very strong reception.
Euro 4 and 5 LF45 Upgrades
The LF45 is updated to meet Euro standards and has a facelift at the same time
LF45 Gets Facelift
The Edition 2009 models of the LF trucks become available. A plush new interior is included, so be aware that the more recent LF45s for sale on TruckLocator.co.uk are slightly nicer to be in…but there are some optional safety features too.
LF45 goes EEV
DAF upgrades the LF45 to EEV standard with all the trucks in their range. At this stage it is optional, so you won't find many EEV of this age in the used market
DAF LF Hybrid goes into production
The first hybrid LFs begin production – DAF is one of the first European manufacturers to begin making hybrid distribution trucks. The new LFs achieve up to 20% CO2 emissions.
100,000 LF Trucks
The 100,000th LF rolls off the production line. A massive achievement demonstrating the possibility of the LFs in the lightweight market – just think how many used DAF LF45 trucks are available to buy!
Euro 6 DAF LF Launched at CV Show
Set to arrive in the UK early in 2014, the LF receives a much needed facelift, but keeps the cab that it shares with the Renault Midlum (it is made in the Renault factory in France)
EEV now Standard
All 4 cylinder LF45s (nearly all the LFs are 4 cylinder 4.5 litres) are now EEV as standard
DAF LF Euro 6 Hits UK Streets
From October 2013 all new trucks registered had to be Euro 6. This meant that trucks sold after this time had to be the new model LF. The manufacturer did, however, still have plenty of the outgoing models to sell and register well into the first quarter of 2014. In reality numbers of new LF trucks were not registered until the second half of 2014.

DAF LF45 Series

DAF’s LF45 is a bestseller in the UK, and this means that there’s always a large selection of 45s for sale on TruckLocator.co.uk. As with all trucks produced by the PACCAR owned company, the LF45 is very customisable, so it’s easy to find the right second hand truck to meet a specific need.

The ‘45’ relates to the size of the engine – 4.5 litres. The engines in the LF series are generally regarded to be some of the best in their class, and it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to find more economical vehicles of a similar size, which means that the 45 is probably the best truck on the market for drivers making a lot of short trips.

The LF is available as a rigid vehicle or as a tractor, and with either a day or sleeper cab.

2006 DAF LF45 Sleeper
DAF LF45 with a sleeper cab

As you might imagine from the size of the truck the sleepers aren’t the most spacious, so for drivers making regular overnight stops the CF series is leagues ahead.

The 45 isn’t the best over long distances either, so there shouldn’t be too much of a need to get a sleeper cab – but DAF have at least made the best of the space they’ve got, so it’s not unbearable to kip inside.
