Beavertails Trucks For Sale

Beavertail trucks are capable of streamlining the process of loading wheeled equipment on to a trailer, meaning that the use of a secondary machine is not required. As well as speeding up this important process, it means that operators do not need to be trained in the use of cranes, which would otherwise be necessary to achieve the same results. Second-hand beavertail trucks come with bodies of different lengths and feature a variety of cab options up front. And because these trucks will have had to take on heavy plant equipment, everything from the suspension to the chassis and rear ramps will have to be inspected to ensure it is in an appropriate condition for sale.

The beavertail name applied to this kind of truck is appropriate because it describes the visual effect given by the drop-off end and twin ramps typically found at the end of the trailer. The ramps allow for equipment of all kinds to be loaded on to the rear without any additional kit getting involved, which is why this type of truck will also feature an integrated hydraulic winch to make this easier.

BeavertailBasic models feature ramps which must be deployed manually, although it is also worth pointing out that not all second-hand trailers will be sold with the ramps, so you should check the description and contact the seller for a full rundown of the features in each case. Hydraulic ramps are also available on modern variants, which is a feature that makes it possible for the beavertail body to be adjusted into a flat-bodied trailer at the push of a button. This kind of versatility may be valuable if the truck is to take on a number of different tasks over the course of its life.

Beavertail truck cabs run the gamut, from three-seaters with modern features such as automatic gearboxes, cruise control, air conditioning and CD player to larger overnight cabs with manual gearboxes. Reversing cameras, lighting rigs and other extras can be found if required, while trailers and cabs which are in keeping with Euro ratings are a must for any truck that is set to be used in the UK and the rest of the EU. At the upper end of the size scale, you will encounter models with a gross vehicle weight of around 26 tonnes, although smaller models that are designed for carrying lesser loads are also common. Trucks with steel suspension should be checked over for wear and tear, while those relying on air suspension will also require the scrutiny of a knowledgeable eye to make sure that they are up to scratch.

The ramps at the rear can come under immense strain as equipment is being loaded and unloaded, as can the winch system, but if these are used carefully, then they can last for years. Tried and tested for many years, the beavertail truck configuration is one which suits a number of commercial applications and continues to attract a lot of competition from manufacturers, leading to a healthy second-hand market.
